The Great Adventure. When I bought this game from my local Salvation Army second hand store I had no idea what I was about to get inside the box. I'm sure that when people bought this game new in the 70's that they would have had no idea where places like Kuwait, Kurdistan or Mosul or Kirkuk were. Now most people could have used the playing board to follow parts the war. One interesting thing about this game is that it doesn't even feature the United States in game play. This is probably because the game seems to have originated in Sweden from a company called Billingsfors Papersforadling Ab. My copy was printed by John Sands Pty Ltd, a well known Australian game and toy company under license. It seems to me that the old US/EU rivalry might have started quite some time ago. Game play consists of circulating the board drilling test wells, producing oil and shipping it to oil refineries. The winner is the person with the most wealth when the 36 bills of lading for shipping run out. The game seems well balanced with most finishes fairly close. Skill may be the deciding factor in determining the winner. The creators claim that much of the detail relating to production, cost and locations are accurate, or at least they were in the 70's.
